Tony Williams is about to find out what happened at Roswell. What he learns sends his life in a new direction.

0400 Roswell Time Michael Adam Leptuch 9780983428626 Books

I thoroughly enjoyed Kwajalein Stories about Tony Williams (we never knew his real name) a counter espionage operative after the end of WWII and praised Michael Leptuch's masterly first person commentary of Williams' life at that time via his memoirs as an old man. The brief book description told me little more than this book would be a sequel but the title told me nothing about the book (and still doesn't).

The first book gave a good factual background of the era and was most realistic. I expected more stories about William's espionage activities at the start of the Cold War but was surprised to find that most of this book was fantasy science fiction about "flying saucers" in the US and Russia. I don't believe in such fantasies and couldn't avoid marking down my rating because of the unbelievable subject matter.

In this book, while Leptuch used the first person he changed characters and it was frequently hard to work out who was telling the tale. There were no chapter headings for each character to help and sometimes the first person character even changed within a chapter.

Despite all of this I enjoyed Leptuch's writing and he is certainly a very good story teller. My main grouch is that the story wasn't complete as the main objective of the flying saucers was left till the next book. In the end I enjoyed the story and the writing, but the style problems and fantasy topics put me off. All in all I found this book extremely hard to give a fair rating.

Wow this TONY is extremely good at his job..I hope I never find him in or around my town..Two 45 slugs only slowed him down..and as always your in the middle of everything. DON'T MISS THIS BOOK
The Sophmore book to Leptuch's collection, 0400 Roswell Time revisits many of our favorites characters from Kwajalein Stories as we follow along the protagonist- Williams'- life of international intrigue. This book sinks it's teeth in you from the get-go. Each carefully crafted scene develops along a backdrop of meticulously detailed backgrounds; one finds themself rooting for the "good" guys and rooting against the "bad" guys in this page-turner of a story. There is enough weaponry for the war buff, local history for the Califonia-phile and suspense for the mystery reader, all tied together with a little bit of sci-fi for added spice. Leptuch's love of history and excellent grasp of human nature make for a realistic and accessible read. You can't go wrong with this book.
Everything was written in first person, you didn't know who was saying what. The transition from one chapter to another was not done well.
OK story -- cringe-worthy writing.
Well done, a few passages were a might difficult to follow as to time line and subject but overall really a good read and I will seek out some more from this author.
A straight forward writing style with well researched political issues of the day and accurate geography provides an interesting alternative concept of UFO sightings and a plausible explanation for some of them as seen through the eyes of one government operative and the family he built with one the survivors of one crash site.
I was enjoying this first Leptuch/Leptukh book immensely and was even impressed that Leptuch mentioned the Volynian Calvary Regiment - a Polish army of occupation unit named after the Western Ukrainian province of Volyn. My grandfather being from Volyn had been wounded as a result of Polish army of occupation "maneuvers" in 1938, while he was peacefully working in his fields. For the record Ploand occupied West Ukraine between WW 1 and 1939. I was impressed by Leptuch's command of Eastern European history but alas my good feelings and positive impression was soon dashed. A few pages after the mention of Volyn Leptuch broke one of my core rules- I do not tolerate any author portraying Russia, Russians, Soviets or Communists in a good light or any author writing or forwarding any lies about Ukrainian history. Leptuch claimed that the Russians had to "clean out" "Nazi " sympathizers in Ukraine after WW II. Well Mr. Leptuch please stop repeating Russian lies. The Russians have always claimed that any ethnic group of any land that Russia invaded who fought for self determination and independence were " fascist" or Nazi" symps. The Russians used their NKVD terrorist battalions to kill off and arrest members of the UPA - Ukrainian Insurgent Army and the OUN - Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. The UPA fought the Germaniac Nazis in most of Western Ukraine until 1944 and then they fought the invading SSB - Soviet Scum Bags - aka the NKVD - the Red Army. My dad was OUN until the Germaniacs arrested him and sent him to a forced labor camp in Northeastern Germania.

I am very sad that I had to stop reading Leptuch's book and will not be buying the other Leptuch books because he had promise and was telling a good fictional story about Roswell. Yet I have certain principles which I hold as basic truths and I just cannot tolerate anyone misrepresenting the Russians as being good or misrepresenting the country of my grandfathers. Too bad since I will not ever find out if the other Leptuch books are any good.

Edited It seem like a small thing to some people that I expressed my disgust that Mr. Leptuch smeared my parents and people of their generation with the Soviet-Russian invented lie referring to those Ukrainians who fought against the Soviet -Russians ( and by the way fought the Nazis) as Nazi symps. My parents and other family members suffered from Germmaniac Nazi and from Soviet-Russian occupation as did most people in Ukraine. Both of my parents ended up in different forced labor camps in Germany. Even today my Mom who is still alive refers to the time time that she was sent to the "camps" as "the day the Germans took me away". My Dad told me even when I was a young kid whenever I asked about WW 2 and the Germans, " all of the Germans had blood on their hands".

My entire family suffered from German atrocities of various types and they did from Soviet -Russian atrocities. The same grandfather who was wounded by Polish occupation army "maneuvers" was sent to the same types of camps in Siberia Mr. Leptuch talked about Polish prisoners were sent to in his book.
I do not feel any ill will against Mr. Leptuch and I believe that he is a good author albeit misguided when it comes to accepting Russian propaganda. Even now the Russians terrorist regime in Moscov refer to the Ukrainian government as fascist for no other reason than the fact that good Ukrainians want to be part of Europe and not part of the Russian empire of evil.

I shall always keep my principles and will stop reading and avoid works by any author who views Russians as good or accepts Russian lies as "Pravda" - "truth".

Thank you Stefan Markovich Bandera
